Oh, boy. Or girl?

Like I said in yesterday's 14-week video post, one of the first questions we're asked when sharing the news is if our little one is a boy or girl. We have no clue, and it looks like we won't find out until around July 4th.

Gah. I'm so curious!

To keep myself occupied during the wait, I decided to look at some of the ways people attempt to predict gender at home. Specifically, I used sources here, here, here, and here.

The results so far . . .

Time of Conception: BOY
I think we conceived on the day I ovulated. Typically I've read that the consensus is that male sperm swim faster, so if you want a boy, you should time conception as close together with ovulation as possible.

Cravings: BOY
Though I've been craving cookie dough, it's about the only thing sweet I desire. Everything else is salty and savory. And that's not like me.

Baking Soda Test: GIRL
This one's kind of gross, but I read on Baby Center if you pee on baking soda and it fizzles, it's a boy. If it does nothing, it's a girl. Well, mine did nothing besides make a mess.

Dreams: 2 GIRL, 1 BOY
I haven't had a baby dream in a few weeks, but early on, I had a definite dream our little one is a boy. However, a couple weeks later, I had two dreams about having a girl. Who knows!

Morning Sickness Severity: BOY
My sickness was uncomfortable, but NOTHING like what other people go through. I definitely have nausea and a few times of getting totally sick. But for the most part, it was bearable. I hear this indicates boy.

Placenta Position: BOY
I found this one last night. There was a study performed several years ago with placenta position around 6 weeks and gender. Apparently the results are up to 97% accurate. Right side is boy, left side is girl. Mine was on the right at that point in time. But I've read that this is not at all as accurate as it promises to be!

Mathematical Formula: GIRL
You add your age (2 + 7) to your due date month (1 + 1) to your conception month (3). Odd equals boy, even equals girl. Mine adds up to 14. Seems silly to me!

Chinese Gender Predictor: EITHER
I used the chart that's on The Bump and got BOY. However, I remember getting a GIRL result somewhere else on the web. I hear this has something to do with lunar age versus age.

Mayan Table: BOY
You just plug in your age and month on conception. Who knows. If the Mayans are right about the end of the world date that's fast approaching in December, I may have a boy. Let's hope they're not right, though. At least about the apocalypse.

Gut Feeling: BOY
Growing up, I was the only girl in my family with lots of male cousins and more blood-related uncles than aunts. I was surrounded by boys and -- myself -- am somewhat of a tomboy. My gut feeling is boy . . . and I feel like EVERYONE around me is having boys. Who knows, maybe we'll jump on the wagon.

So, that's 7 votes for BOY and a mere 2 for GIRL. I'll be on pins and needles waiting for that next ultrasound. I'm sure no matter the result, it'll be thrilling -- we're excited and ready for anything!
